Bio-heating oil is heating oil based on renewable raw materials. Most heating systems can use bio-heating oil. This means that you do not need to replace the heating system you already have. Alternatively, the heating system can be converted to use renewable energy sources such as solar heat or geothermal heat. To avoid operational problems, it is important to purchase bio-heating oil of sufficiently high quality. Therefore, through the Norwegian Industry Standard, members of Drivkraft Norge have established two different product standards which are recommended for the use of bio-heating oil. These are the product standard for FAME (equivalent to that for biodiesel – EN 14214) and HVO (equivalent to that for renewable diesel – EN 15940). You can ensure this by checking with your supplier.
