The Tank Regulations / The Major Accident Regulations
The Major Accident Regulations apply to undertakings where uncontrolled incidents of a major scale, such as fire, explosion, or emissions, may occur.
The regulations require that information regarding the undertaking's activities, safety measures, and recommended behavior in the event of accidents is communicated to the public.
Bunker Oil AS is classified as a major accident undertaking based on the quantities of diesel stored, and is therefore subject to the Major Accident Regulations. The authorities impose strict requirements on tank facilities, which are verified through periodic inspections. More information can be obtained from DSB.
Risk analyses and safety
Risk analyses have been carried out for the receipt, storage, and delivery of products. The analyses assess the probability of serious incidents and form the basis for measures to eliminate or reduce risk.
What is stored at the tank facilities
The following refined petroleum products are stored at our tank facilities:
Autodiesel
Marine gas oil
Hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO)
The storage is approved by DSB. In addition, smaller quantities of the following are stored:
Windshield washer fluid
AdBlue

Emergency preparedness
Our facilities have their own emergency response group and a 24-hour manned emergency telephone. We work closely with the fire department, police, and other major accident undertakings.
All tank facilities are risk-assessed and have established procedures and emergency plans based on these assessments. Drills on various accident scenarios are conducted regularly.
All documentation required in accordance with the Major Accident Regulations has been forwarded to the supervisory authorities and is updated regularly to reflect changes at the terminals.
Potential incidents and consequences
Potential hazards at tank facilities can be leakage or spillage of oil products from pipes, tanks, or in connection with loading and fueling.
Leaks in themselves do not normally pose a danger to life or health. Should a fire occur in a leaked product, it will be limited to the facility area.
Danger of explosion
Extensive safety measures have been implemented at our facilities. Modern detection equipment is installed to capture the onset of hazardous situations at an early stage.
We invest significant resources in preventing leaks and fires. The products are stored in a way that reduces the risk of explosion to a minimum. Filling from a tanker truck to the facility takes place using specialized equipment designed to eliminate the risk of leakage.
Evacuation and warning routines
Our facilities are equipped with overfill alarms. Any alarms heard outside Bunker Oil's area do not normally pose any immediate danger.
If an alarm should against all expectations be triggered, we ask you to contact us via the emergency telephone numbers below or read more at:
