Reliability in the cold - choose the right diesel quality
Operational reliability in the cold
– choose the right diesel quality
When the winter cold sets in, it is crucial to use diesel that is adapted to both temperature and Norwegian conditions. The wrong quality can cause major problems – which is why we adapt our deliveries according to the season. Currently, we are distributing autumn diesel (intermediate quality) with a cold filter plugging point (CFPP) of –24 °C.
Seasonally adapted quality
To ensure reliable operation throughout the year, Bunker Oil delivers the following:
Autumn and winter diesel (intermediate quality) with a plugging point of –24 °C
Normally delivered from 15 September to 31 October (±14 days)Winter diesel with a plugging point of –32 °C
Available from 1 November to 29 February
This ensures that machinery and vehicles function smoothly, even when temperatures drop very low.
Risks of incorrect quality
If the diesel cannot withstand the cold, wax can form and clog the filter. The result can be engine failure or a complete shutdown of operations. By using the correct seasonal diesel, and maintaining good routines for tank operation, you can avoid such problems.
Good practices for the winter season
For the best possible operational reliability, it is recommended to:
Regularly drain water from storage tanks
Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for filter replacement
Be mindful of mixing old and new quality during transition periods
