Climate measures that result in more emissions?

The Ministry of Finance has decided to remove the CO₂ tax exemption for fishing vessels in international waters starting July 1, 2025. This means that Norwegian fishing vessels can no longer bunkering tax-free in Norwegian ports before traveling to a foreign port.

Drivkraft Norge has reacted strongly to the decision and issued a press release warning of the consequences: increased global emissions, weakened emergency preparedness, and the loss of Norwegian jobs. We believe this is a climate measure that in practice has the opposite effect, and we urge the government to reverse it.

Before the news broke this week, we had an op-ed on the topic published in collaboration with ZERO and Fiskebåt. This was published in Avisa NordlandSunnmørsposten and Kyst og Fjord
