Change in the color of tax-free diesel – from green to blue from January 1, 2026

From January 1, 2026, the authorities are introducing a new European labeling standard for duty-free diesel. This means that the fuel will get a blue color instead of green, as a result of a new marker substance.

Why is this being done?

Clearer marking: The blue color makes it easier to distinguish between taxable and duty-free diesel.

Better control: The change gives the authorities a better opportunity to detect the illegal use of duty-free diesel in vehicles that should use regular diesel.

Unchanged fuel quality: The fuel itself remains the same – only the color and the marker substance are changing.

During a transition period, both green and blue duty-free diesel will be in circulation.
